October is Down Syndrome Awareness Month.
Here is a powerful message we wanted to share!
WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN AWARENESS AND ACCEPTANCE
💙 Awareness is knowing you have a classmate with a disability.
💛💙💛 Acceptance is inviting him to hang out with you.
💙 Awareness is simply realizing someone has a disability.
💛💙💛 Acceptance is making real conversation with them.
💙 Awareness is seeing someone with a disability do something you might not expect.
💛💙💛 Acceptance is telling them they're cool, encourage them or work together with them.
💙 Awareness is saying you have a friend with a disability.
💛💙💛 Acceptance is really being a good friend to them.
💙 Awareness is appreciating the gifts and challenges of those with different skills.
💛💙💛 Acceptance is volunteering your time to help.
💙 Awareness agrees with these statements.
💛💙💛 Acceptance is sharing them.
💙 Awareness doesn't involve doing anything different.
💛💙💛 Acceptance is acting❣
While it's good to have Awareness, we must strive to accept and empower children and adults of all abilities. We all have strengths, challenges and gifts to share.

SC Seniors "pranking for service" today by having Principal Scharn arrested and jailed. Randy Koenig added another arrest by nominating Mrs. Schmidt. The Sioux Central teachers and student body raised $235 as bail money and donated it to the Sioux Rapids Area Historical Assoc.
Dennis Williams was a guest speaker in the essentials of writing and reading class today. He shared how reading and writing are part of being a west shop supervisor at Ranco and part of his work as a volunteer fireman. The students appreciated hearing about the various forms of communication and procedures involved in both fields. Thank you for visiting #SiouxCentral and sharing the importance of communication!

Elementary PBIS Celebration this morning with special guests Rebel Cheerleaders and Rebel Football Players. The kiddos with certificates were nominated this month by their teachers for being SAFE, CARING, RESPECTFUL OR RESPONSIBLE. We always talk to the kids about INTEGRITY...doing what' right when no one is looking! WE HAVE AWESOME KIDS AT SIOUX CENTRAL. Yesterday I received a visit from a person, not part of our SC staff, who had worked with different grade levels on some projects. She said, "I just had to stop in and tell you how awesome your kids are at this school. They were the best I've worked with in a long time." #SCPRIDE #RAISINGGOODREBELS
